Coffee at the Mayflower Cafe in Jackson, MS – this cafe was in the movie “The Help.” Not great coffee, but true depth of atmosphere.

Let’s just skip over almost two years…

I got the bright idea almost two years ago to start this blog.  Obviously, nothing worth writing about has happened in my life in two years OR I’ve been incredibly lazy.  Actually, the truth is, I’m afraid that if I start blogging, I won’t want to stop.  Blogging is almost like journaling, and I don’t like the latter.  But since my friend Tish Suk signed on to my blog this week, I feel I owe it to at least her and about a thousand others to keep up this blog.  Thank you, Tish!  You always know how to encourage me.

I won’t attempt to re-cap the last two years, but let’s just say it’s a been a combination of the following:

1) the continual adjustment to NYC life.

2) the addition of a million (at least) young adults into my sphere.

3) the addition of a Golden Retriever named Strider into our already crazy household.  He’s 17 months old TODAY.

4) I’ve been to Israel twice with our “Massah” program and look forward to climbing Masada again this summer.

5) Jhan has grown more handsome (sort of like the Dos Equis man) and more attentive and has taken on the title Dr. Moskowitz since I last wrote, having successfully accomplished his DMin from Trinity Seminary.

There have been other assorted ups and downs, joys and sorrows, hallelujahs and oy veys, but mostly, I’ve enjoyed the last two years as we’ve adjusted to Brooklyn life and our home has expanded its heart to include all those God keeps bringing our way.  Stay tuned.  And again…thank you, Tish, for reminding me that I like to write.

What is about me and young adults?

Have you ever been with people who GIVE YOU BACK more than you’re giving them?  That’s what happens to me when I’m with people about 1/3 my age.  I love their ridiculousness; their indecisiveness; their standing on the edge of life with so much before them.  And it refreshes me to be part of their questions, answers, thoughts and FUN.

I’m a little taken aback by my desire to spend the next six weeks in Israel away from my Tempurpedic bed, to be with 12 young adults I hardly know and who barely know each other.  When does one get too old for the adventure?  I hope never.

My good friend is gone. He played matchmaker between Jhan and myself in ’76. He gave me my start in ministry by just listening to me. He performed our wedding. He gave me my first publication. He taught me how to write what I was trying to say. He loved me. I am glad that I had that time with him.
